WHAT WE DO

Following areas of concern are included in our priority work areas to tackle the climate change:

CLIMATE ACTION

Climate Action – “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”. CBN strictly adheres to achieve SDG-13 and has affordable and scalable solutions available to enable countries to leapfrog to cleaner and more climate resilient economies.

PROTECT AND RESTORE ECOSYSTEMS

Ecosystems can store carbon dioxide in the form of carbon stocks and enhance carbon sequestration, therefore our priority measures include the protection and restoration of ecosystems

LAND RECLAMATION

Increase in temperature is altering the land productivity across the planet. Climate change is an inherent driver of land degradation. We, instead of addressing the consequences of land degradation, aims to verbalize the climate change to overwhelm its impacts on land and soil.

WATER CONSERVATION

Water sector is the main area of concern in terms of climate change impacts since it is the most prone and vulnerable natural resource to climatic variables; precipitation and temperature. Hydrological cycle is completely altered due to climate change and we address these calamities by providing sustainable measures to the conserve the water.

CLEAN AIR

The burning of fossil fuels is often pointed to as the major cause of climate change. This way climate change has degraded the air quality. Our priority initiatives have set goals to provide clean air for all.

CLIMATE RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE

Climate change will affect all types of infrastructure, including energy, transport and water. Rising temperatures, increased flood risk and other potential hazards will threaten the reliable and efficient operation of these networks, with potentially large economic and social impacts. We therefore include the foundation of climate resilient infrastructure in our priority measures.

DISASTERS AND EXTREME EVENTS

The Earth’s climate is changing at a rate that has exceeded most scientific forecasts. Some families and communities have already started to suffer from disasters and the consequences of climate change. We aim to provide aid against the disasters and extreme events.

OCEAN AND COASTAL MANAGEMENT

Coasts are sensitive to sea level rise, changes in the frequency and intensity of storms, increases in precipitation, and warmer ocean temperatures. Confronting existing challenges that affect man-made infrastructure and coastal ecosystems, such as shoreline erosion, coastal flooding, and water pollution, is already a concern in many areas. Addressing the additional stress of climate change may require new approaches to managing land, water, waste, and ecosystems.

BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION (FORESTS AND WILDLIFE)

Biodiversity is affected by climate change, with negative consequences for human well-being. Consequently, for us, conserving and sustainably managing biodiversity is an important aspect in addressing climate change.

NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The impact of climate change and the growth in population is putting stress on the world’s natural resources. CBN provides a framework for effective management of our limited existing natural resources.

PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY AND CONSUMPTION

Our use and production of energy have a massive impact on the climate and the converse is also increasingly true. Climate change can alter our energy generation potential and energy needs. Tackling the dilemma of energy and climate is not easy but CBN has many promising innovations to take the shape of sustainable energy consumption.

CAPACITY BUILDING AND AWARENESS

Strong financial support for capacity building can increase member nations’ compliance in this area; therefore, CBN provides National ownership of capacity building efforts which is key to their sustainability.

NETWORKING AND PARTNERSHIPS

CBN’s Networking, partnerships, and sharing of experiences are important contributors to effectiveness in order to address the climate change impacts.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

CBN is progressively continues to undertake Research and development on climate change and greenhouse gases in support of climate-smart technologies.
